Gosainkunda Holy Lake with Helambu Trek

Start your journey with a scenic 6 to 8-hour drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi. Enjoy beautiful views of rivers, terraced fields, and distant Himalayan peaks along the way. Syabrubesi is the gateway to the Gosainkunda and Helambu regions, where you’ll stay overnight in a cozy teahouse and prepare for the trek ahead.

The trek from Syabrubesi to Thulo Syabru is a gradual uphill walk of about 5 to 6 hours. You’ll pass through lush forests of rhododendron, pine, and oak, with chances to spot local wildlife and bird species. Along the way, small villages and terraced fields offer glimpses of rural Himalayan life. Thulo Syabru is a peaceful village known for its welcoming Tamang community and traditional culture, providing a warm and comfortable place to rest before continuing your journey.

From Thulo Syabru, the trail ascends steadily through dense forests of rhododendron and pine, with stunning mountain views unfolding along the way. The trek takes about 5 to 6 hours, passing through small traditional villages where you can experience local culture firsthand. Arriving at Chandanbari or Sing Gompa, you’ll find a serene monastery and charming teahouses nestled at 3,250 meters, offering peaceful surroundings and spectacular views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks.

The trek from Chandanbari (Sing Gompa) to Lauribina is a steady uphill climb of about 4 to 5 hours. The trail winds through beautiful pine and rhododendron forests, gradually opening to alpine meadows with panoramic views of Ganesh Himal, Langtang Lirung, and even the Annapurna range on clear days. Lauribina, situated at 3,950 meters, is a key acclimatization stop before reaching Gosainkunda. It offers stunning sunset views and a peaceful resting place above the tree line.

The trek from Lauribina to Gosainkunda takes about 4 to 5 hours and is one of the most scenic sections of the journey. The trail climbs above the treeline, offering breathtaking views of the Himalayas and high alpine landscapes. As you approach Gosainkunda, you pass several smaller lakes before reaching the sacred Gosainkunda Lake, nestled at 4,380 meters. Surrounded by rugged peaks, this holy site is a place of pilgrimage for Hindus and Buddhists, known for its spiritual energy and serene beauty.

Spending a day at Gosainkunda helps your body adjust to the high altitude before crossing the nearby pass. You can explore the sacred lake and its surroundings, visit nearby smaller lakes like Saraswati Kund and Bhairav Kund, or simply rest and enjoy the peaceful alpine environment. This day also allows time for spiritual reflection, photography, and appreciating the stunning mountain views in a calm, high-altitude setting.

Today’s trek is one of the most challenging and rewarding parts of the journey. You’ll begin with a steep ascent to Lauribina Pass (4,610m)—the highest point of the trek—offering breathtaking views of the Himalayas. After crossing the windy, rugged pass, the trail descends sharply through rocky terrain and sparse alpine vegetation. The path gradually leads into dense forest before reaching Ghopte (3,450m), a small, quiet resting spot nestled in the woods. Total walking time is around 7 to 8 hours, depending on pace and weather.

From Ghopte, the trail continues through dense rhododendron and fir forests, with occasional clearings offering views of surrounding hills and valleys. After some ups and downs, you pass through Thadepati and begin a gradual descent toward the culturally rich village of Melamchi Gaon. The trek takes around 5 to 6 hours, leading you into the heart of the Helambu region, known for its warm Sherpa and Tamang hospitality, traditional houses, and ancient monasteries. It’s a beautiful and peaceful place to rest for the night.

After completing your trek, you'll drive back to Kathmandu through scenic countryside roads. When you're ready for your international flight, a representative from Kinga Lama Trek Nepal will transfer you to Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) for your final departure.
